Before Destiny, NY and Space Between Entertainment, before Cheeky Comics and Kickstarter, before it all, I was mostly known for writing Zenescope Entertainment’s Robyn Hood.
In 2012, I took on Robyn Hood as my first-ever miniseries. What started as five issues led to a trilogy of miniseries. That then led to a 20-issue ongoing series. From 2012 - 2016, Robyn Hood was my passion, my main channel for my creativity, and my favorite thing I’d done.
The original trilogy took a woman from Queens and sent her to a world of sword & sorcery called Myst. There, she led an uprising.
Then, the ongoing series took her and a witch from Myst, Marian, to New York City. Through Marian, who had only lived in a grim and dark world, Robyn saw the mundane place she grew up painted in a new and magic light.
Leaving the series when I did was one of the hardest choices I’ve ever made. There was a lot of discussion between me and Zenescope about the directions it could go, and I ended up feeling it was best to pitch an ending to my run after 39 total issues. Many of the ideas I has for where the series would go ended up becoming Destiny, NY.
That was in May 2016, almost eight years ago now.
I left Zenescope as a staff writer shortly after wrapping up Robyn Hood, and went on to found Space Between Entertainment later that same year.
In 2021, I linked back up with Zenescope to start a second run on another title I’d been on for a long time: Van Helsing. I’ve been on a steady run of Van Helsing issues since then, now clocking more issues on that series than even Robyn Hood.
It’s been eight years since I’ve written for Robyn.
Now, I can announce a special, one-issue return to Robyn Hood for a crossover as part of my Van Helsing run.
FAIRY TALE TEAM-UP: ROBYN HOOD & VAN HELSING comes in June 2024 from Zenescope Entertainment.
It sees the two characters I’ve written for the longest in this universe link up once again for an action-packed, funny, and emotional vampire epic.
Here are some more covers.
And the solicitation:
When Robyn Hood discovers a nest of affluent vampires running an underground club in New York City, she quickly realizes she needs the help of Liesel Van Helsing, the world's foremost vampire hunter, to take them down.
Who knows what the future of Robyn is? Since I left the title in 2024, they’ve hit over 100 issues of her series, making it one of the longest-running indie comics and one of if not the biggest Zenescope hits ever. What an honor to check back in with this character, whose first words of dialogue I wrote in my twenties so many years ago, all this time later.
In other news, we got in one of the most gorgeous books we’ve ever made: Azza the Barbed by myself and Rio Burton. This thing came out beautiful.
The team is now hard at work shipping that, Cheeky Comics Annual 2024, and Amorini: Amateur Cupid.
It’s been a wild year and we’re just getting started.
